MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 3rd XI - Sat v Wivenhoe 2nd X1 on Sat 05 May 2012 at 1.00 p.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall3s won by 5 wickets
Match report
Mildenhalls 3rd X1 did manage to start in their home match with Wivenhoe 2nd X1. The away side batted first and were contained initially by Mildenhalls opening attack of Martin Kingdon and Asgar Ozhakkal. Wivenhoe scored just 25 runs off the first ten overs and had been pegged to 57 for 2 at the half way mark of the innings. Kingdon was rewarded with three wickets and Wivenhoe looked to be wobbling after change bowlers Chris Reeve and Neil Clark removed the next five wickets. Andy Francis assisted the change bowlers with a stumping off each. However Wivenhoe made an eighth wicket recovery as Burnett and Tomkinson added an unbeaten 49 allowing them to declare on 183 for 8. For Mildenhall Kingdon took 3 for 30 and Reeve 3 for 57 while Clark finished with 2 for 48.
Mildenhall got off to a terrible start losing Mick Saunders on 0 and the other opener Mark Thurston “back in the hut” with the score on 8. James Taylor and Kevin Pearson gradually took a grip on the match with Taylor looking the more fluent early on. The pair had posted 76 by the 20th over and their partnership carried on to see the Mildenhall total go past 100. Taylor was adjudged LBW for 46 with the score on 104. Pearson then became the dominant partner as he and Neil Clark put Mildenhall into a winning position. With the score on 134Pearson (48) was out and missed a half century when he offered a simple catch to cover point. Mildenhall were not to be denied and with big hitting from Steve Hunt (15) and Lou Handy (11*) and a cultured 43* from Clark the home side ran out winners by 5 wickets in the 43rd over. Mildenhall picked up 19 points while Wivenhoe claimed 6 points.
