MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall 2nd X1 won by 54 runs

Match report
Mildenhall 2nd X1 entertained Kelvedon and Feering in a division three match of the Two Counties league. With last weeks defeat bringing back memories of the side’s poor performance in 2009, it was vital that the side should get something out of this match. The home side batted first and made the worst possible starts when Richard Thurston (0) played forward and gave a straight forward catch to Ahern off the bowling of J.Parsons. His Captain Andy Squire then joined Adam Trett at the crease. They added 42 before Squire (22) was given out lbw to A. Parsons. The pitch was showing a lot of signs of being two paced as Trett and his new partner Luke Turner began to compile a partnership. Trett in particular showed his intent as three fours in three balls were dispatched to various parts of the ground. He was very strong on anything pitched up, stroking it through the mid wicket area. Both batsmen played uppish shots as the pace off the wicket deceived them. However Trett reached 50 in the 19th over and the pair gradually took control bringing up a century partnership in the 29th over. Turner reached his half-century in the 32nd over. Trett continued batting well and accomplished a well-deserved 100 in the 39th over. The next over Mildenhall passed 200. Trett (116) eventually perished to an ill judged single and was run out. . Turner finished not out on 88 as Mildenhall closed their innings on 237 for 3.This total might have been higher had not the Kelvedon ground fielding been good all afternoon.

Kelvedon were soon on the back foot as Ollie Watson dismissed both openers and Andy Youngs rowed in snaring the next two Kelvedon batsmen. Kelvedon’s middle order showed their intention to fight back with E.Smith (36) and P.Ahern (30) playing their part. J.Parsons was unbeaten on 49. However skipper Squire was able to exploit the Kelvedon approach as he introduced firstly “Slowy” Steve Ready who grabbed 3 for 38 and then Will Vale who picked up 3 for 16. Kelvedon were bowled out for 183 leaving Mildenhall winners by 54 runs.
