Coggeshall Town CC 1st XI v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat on Sat 18 Jun 2022 at 12:00
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Having won the toss, stand in skipper Dom Palmer decided to bat first at the lovely Coggeshall ground on Saturday.

Once again a strong start from the openers 55-0 off 11 overs, was seriously slowed by the oppositions experienced slow bowlers.
Having constructed an opening partnership of 89, Dom was first to go when we he was caught and bowled by Blackwell for 43 in the 27th over. Six overs later Jon Allen chipped off- spinner Botha to mid-wicket for 49.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Worthington being run out for 29 off 32 balls, Handy was promoted up the order to inject some impetus into the innings and he was stumped for 18 off 11 balls. The total reached 228 for 7 off 50 overs due to some good batting late on from Griffin (40 off 31) and Heskey (23 off 17).
For Coggeshall, Botha took 4-45 off 10 overs whilst the experienced spin duo of Will Blackwell and Barry Stephen’s conceded just 49 runs off 20 overs.
In the field, Heskey and Jonah, started well and applied pressure on the openers in the early overs. Both beating the bat on a number of occasions.
The breakthrough didn’t happen though until Murti came into the attack and bowled Jagger with his first delivery.
The other opener, Colairo, grew in confidence and started to take the game away from Mildenhall with some fine hitting.
Having taken 4 wickets bowling, South African Botha, came in at 3 and looked very busy hitting four 4s in his 20 before Murti outwitted him and Cobbold picked up a sharp stumping.
Having reached 64, with six 6s and five 4s, Colairo was then run out by some fine fielding by Jonah Handy.
Garner came in at 4 and after a sketchy start, surviving a few strong LBW shouts from Murti then skied a drive off the same bowler and was caught by Fletcher for 24.
Skipper Edwards then came into bat and took his side to the brink of victory in a 58 run partnership with Blackwell but with the score on 223, he was bowled by Du Plooy for 45.
Blackwell finished the job with some fine blows and ended up 39 not out.
Coggeshall took the win by 5 wickets in the 44th over.
Murti’s figures were 10-1-24-3.
Du Plooy took 1-37 off 6 overs.

The Super 2s will look to pick up their performance levels for the key game at home to Clacton next week.
