MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

That winning feeling

20 Jun 2018

Mildenhall 1XI took on Sudbury in a EAPL Suffolk clash. Sudbury batted first and Mildenhall's Tom Rash was in inspired form with the ball. Rash removed Mansfield, Batch and the dangerous Huggins in short time. It was left to Ben Parker (48) and Timothy Jackson (27) to rescue the innings. Poole (28) and Harvey (28) made some useful late order contributions but Sudbury only made 161 from their 36.3 overs. Rash was outstanding with the new ball taking 3-29. Nick Maiolo took 2-14 but once again it was the veteran Pete Worthington who shined with the ball. Pete taking 4-22. An outstanding performance from the Mildenhall 1XI in the field.

And that form continued with the bat. Joe Reed outstanding again. Joe hit 97 not out from 82 balls with 14 4's and 4 6's. There was also a good contribution from Nick Maiolo with 48. Mildenhall reached their target from 29.2 overs and in doing so now top the EAPL tables. Great effort from the Wamil Way team.

The 2XI also took on Sudbury this time at home. Clark (21) and Trett (31) got the innings off to a good start. Ben Curran found some form with his 57. Tom Allen also contributed 46 not out. Mildenhall scoring 206 from their 45 overs. It proved too much for the Sudbury 2XI side. Mildenhall bowling them out for 163 from 39.5 overs. 4 wickets for Jack Loveday, 2 for Tom Allen and 1 each for Morrison, Bowman and Steve Graham.

Another Suffolk derby and another win. This time it was a win for the 3XI at home against Stowmarket. Batting first Mildenhall made a imposing 255. The mainstay of the innings was Jordan Francis who made a superb 119 not out. Lovely to see Jordan back to his best and making a real contribution to a 3XI that have struggled with the bat in recent years. Neil Clark added (22), Kev Pearson (29), Luke Turner (34) and Martin Taylor (32) not out. Stowmarket chased the target hard but ultimately fell short. Stowmarket finished on 200 for 9 from 45 overs. Wickets were shared between Matt Heywood (4), Kiefer (2), Tom Heywood (2) and Martin Taylor (1). A great win for the 3XI.

And another Suffolk derby and another win...this time for the 4XI. Woolpit had first use of an excellent pitch and outfield. Woolpit made 225 for 7 wickets. Feavearyear (60, West (40) and Bradwell (34) were the main contributors. Harry Parker bowled with pace and aggression and was rewarded with 2-35. Lou Handy was expensive but was able to take 2 wickets. There was also a first senior wicket for Doctor Muhammad Ubaid. Josh Jones also took a wicket despite an injured hand (when keeping wicket). Mildenhall got off to a good start with the bat thanks to the experience of Saunders (52) and James Taylor (67). Mildenhall had their share of luck but ultimately came out on top. Raeel Afall and Josh Jones were fantastic with the bat. The youngsters showed great talent to finish 39 not out. Josh Jones is pushing hard for a 3XI place at the moment with his batting form. Mildenhall reached their target with 4.4 overs to spare. A great win for the 4XI.

As in victory.
