Annual Dinner and Awards evening

15 Oct 2017

Saturday night's "Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Evening" was once again a well organised event. Thanks go to Kayleigh Francis on promoting the occasion . During a delightful dinner James Taylor rose to propose an eloquent toast to the many helpers  and volunteers who keep the club running. He was followed by Martin Kingdon who gave a passionate speech before asking members and guests to stand and toast the club.

Following the dinner the Club's 2017 senior awards  were announced. Highlights included President Tony Cornell awarding the President's Trophy to Chairman Lou Handy for his outstanding hard work and commitment to running the club. Jack Bowman accepted the first eleven player of the year award on behalf of Murtaza Hussein. Announcing the winner Nick Allen praised Murtaza for his professionalism and said he had won the respect of the whole first eleven squad. Andy Youngs outlined the reasons why  Steve Graham was picking up two awards. Firstly 2nd X1 player of the year and then as the 2017 fielder of the year.  Martin Kingdon ( 3rd X1 player of the year) received his award from James Taylor and Andy Francis (4th X1 player of the year) had his trophy presented by Lee Chipchase. Both James and Lee explained how their  nominations had been arrived at.

Turning to Sundays Andy Francis launched into one of his now famous poems before announcing that the Sunday 1st X1 player of the year was Jack Loveday. Jack Horn then gave a colourful account of why Kiefer Renouf had won the Sunday 2nd X1 of the year award. Kiefer also picked up the trophy for the most improved player across all teams.

Ladies captain Kayleigh Francis presented the Ladies Player of the year to Sheldene Ford Keeble and Tori Leyshan was awarded the trophy for the Most Improved Ladies player.

In other awards Jon Allen picked up the trophy for the indoor league competition and Ryan Clark collected a new bat for winning the Mildenhall Cricket Club Fantasy League competition.

The remainder of the evening saw the dance floor continuously filled and a good night was had by all.
