Bury St Edmunds CC v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 27 Jul 2019 at 11.00a.m.

Match report
This match was totally ruined by the weather of course but there was much to admire and enjoy during it's short duration. Initially it was reduced to 86 overs, 46 to the side batting first and 40 to the other. Bury won the toss and put us in. It was fairly obvious from the start that the essence of this game was to score as many runs as possible in the quickest time so wickets were bound to tumble. Poor old Joe and Danny were soon dispatched to the pavilion by Alistair Allchin after which Josh, Ben and Matt having got started and promising much were all caught in the outfield. Tom scored 2 off his first ball then skied one to Ben Curran. Meanwhile our Indian spinner who, together with his Pakistani personal chef have taken nearly half of the wickets this season, decided to give the team a batting lesson. Ably cheered on by most of the second XI who turned up to give support after their match had been abandoned, any stranger present might have been excused for thinking that they had been transported to Mumbai in the middle of a local derby such was the noise that greeted every run. And they came thick and fast, no bowler being spared including Alistair Allchin . Ankit passed his 50 after about 40 balls and just as we were thinking that another 40 runs off the remaining 28 balls was achievable the rain god halted affairs and eventually the match. At this point one must also give credit to Tristan who, although outscored, gave excellent support knowing exactly what to do when on strike!
Last week I omitted to report on the match against Swardeston CC which we eventually lost by 8 runs. However it was again the Indian magician who nearly won us this match with a similar innings of 51 off 53 balls and 4 for 34 off 17 overs. I am rapidly coming to the opinion that there is something in the food that his chef Murtaza is preparing for him. I noticed in the pavilion today that Jamie Allen was tucking into Ankit's leftovers. Pardon the pun but it's food for thought n'cest pas!
