Match report Sudbury v MCC
As a match this was a non-event, so I shan’t bother reporting on it other than to applaud some personal performances, the first being Darren Ironside’s maiden century for Mildenhall CC. An innings without a blemish, nicely constructed in quick time (104 off 106 balls). This also promoted Darren to fourth in the league for number of runs scored in the season with a total of 686. Potts finished with 617 and Nic Smit with 577.
On the bowling front, Tristan and Rashy tore into the Sudbury batsmen and removed 7 of them in the first 10 overs. Sudbury lasted 17.1 overs before they were all out for 95, Tris getting 5 for 32 off 6 overs and Rashy 3 for 42 also off 6 overs. Luvvers and Cruiky shared the last two to wrap it up. It is also worth reporting that Darren Batch, who has been the scourge of bowlers over the years, got a golden duck. His bowling wasn’t bad though with 4 for 28 off 8.
This win meant we finished third in the league, which is testament to, not just individual performances, but to the whole team. Fielding performances were up there, as was team spirit and comradery which all contributes to the result, so well done everybody and let’s hope for the same next year if not even better. We had three bowlers in the league top 25, Tris with 22 wickets, Nic with 27 and Rashy, 33.
Finally, a fond farewell to Nic Smit who has done his bit brilliantly, both with the bat and the ball. We wish him well in his career back home and hope the British summer wasn’t too much of a downer for him.
Memories of the season (in date order):
Rashy’s six off the first ball of the innings against Horsford.
Rashy removing Batch and Huggins in successive balls against Sudbury.
Luvvers' timely 3 for 22 off 6 overs against Saffron Walden
Nic’s first century for MCC v Copdock
Luvvers’ and Cruiky’s winning last wicket stand against Gt. Witchingham
Potts’ century off 69 balls against Burwell & Exning.
Cruiky removing Comber with a corker v Frinton
Darren’s first century for MCC, against Sudbury.
And finally, Luvvers’ assessment of Potts’ power. “ I’ve never erd a ball 'it the sightscreen so quickly off the bat!”
Well done lads, I enjoyed the season despite the weather and look forward to next season with anticipation.
