MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Coming away from this match one couldn’t help thinking that this was an opportunity missed. Our opponents have been alternating with Wisbech Town CC at holding bottom spot in the league for most of the season so how did we lose to them? Admittedly, through injury or holiday leave, we were three bowlers and two batsmen short of a full set but that’s not the full story.
Having won the toss we got off to a good start, seeing off their opening attack without loss, scoring at five an over. Then disaster in the 14th over when Worthy was stranded and was run-out. Unfortunately the camera didn’t record what exactly happened but suffice to say I think he was the innocent party in the affray. But to his credit, Baker carried on regardless and eventually was deservedly rewarded with his first century in the 1sts.
It is recorded here for prosperity.
He was eventually out, caught by Hornbuckle, for 118 including two impressive ramps in the 43rd over.

The rest of the innings was nothing much to write home about except to mention that we ambled along scoring 130 singles in our total of 264 for 9 in 50 overs. If we hadn’t been quite so lethargic maybe 20 or so of these singles might have been turned into twos which could have changed the result.
Horsford’s batting was a bit more frenetic than ours; where we ambled, they ran and turned several potential singles into twos. Their innings consisted of 105 singles compared to our 130. Inevitably our bowling was lacking somewhat and apart from the early dismissal of Chipperfield by LDP, the next 5 batsmen knocked off the required runs comfortably although it took them to the 49th over to do so. Supposing they had had an extra 20 runs to score, the result might have been different. Food for thought.
