Match report This had all the hallmarks of an end of season fixture with nothing to win or lose, lacking imagination in the bowling department, and, with the exception of two players, desire to score runs in the batting department. The two batting performances that did rise above mediocrity, were those of Ashutosh Singh, who was last out with 81 off 97, and Joe Tetley with 45 off 90. The third highest scorer was our old friend Mr Extras with 24. And whilst on the subject of extras, we gave Bury 23 of them (all wides apart from 2 of them), which was their fourth highest contributor.
Our first innings total of 209 in 47.3 overs was knocked off comfortably by Bury in 41 overs. When the skipper got Routledge out in his first over for 0 and two more wickets fell in the 9th and 14th overs, we were beginning to sense that our 6th win in the league this season was about to materialise, despite our meagre score. Unfortunately, their Australian Indian overseas player, (Nivethan Radhakrishnan) and Sean Park had other ideas and put on a partnership of 91 off 117. It would be unfair not describe the catch which ended the partnership. The skipper had just brought himself back on to bowl, out of desperation probably, and Sean Park swung his bat at the rising ball, in the direction of cow corner. Baker, who was fielding somewhere between silly mid on and midwicket, stuck his hand out and unbelievably caught it. From the look on his face, I don’t think he could believe it himself. But he did and I witnessed it. But you never will because Bury don’t have cameras so “sorry Matt, you’ll just have to do it again when we are on camera". Anyway, that was the last wicket we took and Bury had a very easy win.
