Match report Oh Dear, what a fiasco! Two hundred and fifty-seven runs on the board, thanks to a magnificent innings by Mr Worthington and 45 by Joe Reed and we let them score 258 with 11 balls to spare. And what was the cause of this disaster. (No question mark as this is a rhetorical question! ) WIDES. 34 of them! Had we only given them half that many they probably would have struggled to make enough runs to win. At this point it is only fair to point out that one of our bowlers managed to bowl eight plus overs without any wides. I was tempted to give him the man-of-the-match award for this alone but as he won it last week, I thought I would give him the week off. Besides, it would be amiss of me to ignore Worthy’s colossal innings. He came in at the fall of the first wicket in the 6th over and was caught, if memory serves, on the boundary, in the 47th over, for a magnificent score of 124. After all that effort, it was a shame that we presented the match to East Bergholt by our bowling.
Other facts. The best Mildenhall partnership was between Worthy and Reedy amassing 82 runs but the second best (41 runs) was between Worthy and Murty with a combined total age of ??? Answers please on a postcard!
Also, a fine spell of bowling by Aditya Singh who bowled 10 overs taking 3 for 39 and only 4 wides.
A final thought; what a wonderful tea presented by the ladies of the East Bergholt CC.
