MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won by 58 runs

Match report What a joy it is to watch Matt Allen batting this season. Together with his opening partner Pete, they are probably top of the list of all other EAPL clubs to prioritise in removing as soon as possible lest they will tear you to pieces. Matt particularly has impressed this year and this is reflected in his holding top position in the EAPL highest scorers league. Pete, unfortunately, holed out early on today but is clearly the inspiration that Matt needs to drive him on to even greater heights. Enter Darren Ironside who can also be relied on to be a steady and reliable partner for would be star batters in the side and it was he who today was the team’s highest scorer wih 67 off 98 balls. The skipper Joe also put in a useful contribution of 38 off 47 . The innings ended on 252 after our 50 overs, a reasonable total but not one, we thought, that would challenge our opponents who are seriously challenging for the league championship.
But how wrong we were!
The hero of the first innings was thrown the ball for the second over and with his second ball, bowled Sam Arthurton who is also in the top 10 of batsmen in the EAPL. Josh Reed the scorer for Copdock, couldn’t believe it.
Not content with that, in his second over, he had Ollie Burle trapped LBW for 7, and to round off, in his third over, had Ishaan Rakesh lbw.
Although the next wicket took us 19 overs, you could feel that we had knocked the stuffing out of them and they slowly capitulated for 194, 58 runs short.
There were still some high spots to report on, one an incredible catch by “he who never knowingly, drops a catch” Jon Allen and an amazing run-out by the keeper Connor Cobbold but “Man of the match” must undoubtedly go to Matt. Well done Matt (again!).
