Match report
With some noticeable absentees we were overwhelmed by Clacton who, up to this match, had not won a game. Having won the toss and deciding to bat they were quite quickly 43 for 3, both the openers and no 3, back in the pavilion. Liam clean bowled Tom Sinclair in the 4th over, Ben Cross had James Lee caught at Point by Mo, and in the 10th over, Ben had Imran Sheikh caught behind. At that point, we seemed to be in command. The next wicket fell in the 19th over when Aditya Singh had O’Brien caught by Mo for his second catch of the innings. Clacton were then 90 for 4. Unfortunately, things then took a turn for the worse. Charlie Rumistrzewicz and Jakobus Van der Walt put on a stand of 114 in 20 overs before Charlie was caught by JB off Murty. The score was now 204 for 5 with 9 overs to go. Clacton moved the score to 245 for the loss of 2 more wickets at the close of their innings. A good total but not one we couldn’t beat. After all we did it last week!
Poor Joe wasn’t able to make the same contact with the ball as he did in his last innings for the twos at Mildenhall. He was caught off his 21st ball having scored 11. Aditya also had trouble finding the middle of the bat and was out for 0 after 9 balls. Apart from Pete and Murty with scores of 52 and 40 respectively, with a combined age of somewhere in excess of 100, and 26 from the skipper the rest of the innings was not worthy of reporting.
I look forward to seeing an improvement when I return from my short break.
No names no pack drill but overheard from one of our batsmen was “I didn’t realise they were going to aim at the stumps!” That might be a front runner for the “quote of the season” but there’s a long way to go yet.
