Copdock & Old Ipswichians v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 11.00a.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 29 runs

Match report Well it wasn’t an enthralling match but we won which was more important. Our President who was there said it was a workmanlike performance and that just about sums it up. There were some highlights however. Let’s start with the bowling. Once again our spin twins (messrs Lock & Laker spring to my mind but I’ll understand it they don’t spring immediately to your’s) stifled the middle order batting. Nick particularly conceding only 11 runs in a continuous 10 over spell with only 1 wicket as a reward, was almost unplayable with anything but a forward defensive stroke. Murty too did his bit but without any reward in the wicket department. In the middle of Murty’s spell, the skip decided to give Shep a run out and whilst he was not as tidy as his spin brothers he did get 2 wickets. Unfortunately these were the 2 batsmen who were having trouble scoring and we were then confronted by 2 batsmen who proceeded to knock our bowlers about a bit, Chris Swallow making 54 off 61 balls and Norman Scarff, 29 off 20. However by then it was all too late and they petered out with 206 off their allotted 50 overs.
Mildenhall who had batted first having won the toss batted superbly in comparison but in truth there were too many scores of 20 odd instead of 40 odd by our top order batsmen although I did hear one batsman saying "it wasn’t easy out there." There was one shining light and it was of course Shep who continued with his fine run of scores but why does he wait until the season is nearly over. Finally there was a wonderful finale to the innings with Jack Loveday and Matt Allen scoring 47 off 34 balls. Bravo!
Next Saturday we play Burwell at home. We have lost 5 games this season, all at home. As I’m scoring it wouldn’t be right to have a bet on it but I’m tempted!
PS! I nearly forgot. Tom Allen played (I think)!
