News from the Cricket & Coaching Committee

Nets

Well the first net session happened on 7^th April and we had a great attendance – keep it up!

Nets will take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.00pm onwards – the C&C Committee are working on making these as varied as possible and will hopefully be more skills based than “rock up and bat and bowl “ at each other. A lot of hard work is put into planning the sessions so please repay the team by attending as often as possible.

Players

A couple of players have left us this season. Karl Holmes and John Steel have moved to Woolpit CC to pursue EAPL cricket. Chris Lewis has moved to Sudbury. We thank them all for their contributions at MCC and wish them the very best; we look forward to smashing Steely’s short ball all over the park next season and catching Karl out on the slog sweep!

To compensate we have re-signed our overseas coach from last year Steve Taylor and we look forward to welcoming him back to the UK on April 12^th.

All-rounder Steven Graham has also joined us for the season from Queensland and will play in the 2ndXI. He’s one of the many friends that Shep made on his recent trip to play cricket in Australia.

Also joining us is fast bowler Kyle Morrison who has recently moved to the UK from South Africa and all-rounder Hamzah Ikram who is a playing colleague of Tommy A from university.

Peter Worthington now qualifies as a UK resident in accordance with the Two Counties regulations and Ziaf Kulasi has returned to his alma mater from Worlington.

Let’s make the newcomers welcome!

Captains

This year captains/ vice captains or as I prefer to call them the “leadership teams” are:

Saturday 1^st XI   Ben Shepperson              Peter Worthington          Steve Taylor

Saturday 2^nd XI  Andrew Youngs              Adam Trett                         Ryan Clark

Saturday 3^rd XI   Mark Thurston

Saturday 4^th XI   Lou Handy

Sunday 1^st XI      Lee Chipchase

Sunday 2^nd XI     Steven Ready

Players – please help your captains as much as possible – put your availability on the website, keep it up to date, get to the ground at the appointed time, help set up, help put things away, turn up with your match fees……

Thank You

Andy Francis has decided to resign as Sunday 2^nd XI captain. Andy has performed an invaluable role in helping to develop some of our younger players as well as being the bedrock for the Sunday 2^nd XI for the last few years winning two league titles in the process.

Thanks Andy – a pint of fruity Aspalls awaits you on your return from holiday!

That’s it for now – enjoy the season!
