Saturday proved to be a big wash
out with none of the club teams playing their final game of the season due to
the inclement weather. Frustratingly this left Steve Taylor with 1810 runs and
10 runs short of the club’s record aggregate runs. Having helped the club to
win the Two Counties Championship he can take consolation that his 1248 runs at
an average of 78.0 scored in the division one is the best performance of any
Mildenhall batsman since the league switched to Saturday only fixtures back in the
mid-nineties. He was also the only
player in the division to get over 1000 runs. A full report on the star
performances from all our teams will be ready later this week.
Sunday saw the sunshine return
and at Wamil Way the Sunday 2nd X1 took on Lakenheath (who only had
9 players). The game proved to be a cracker. Mildenhall batted first and took
full advantage of the gaps in the field to rack up 256 for 5. Jack Horn was
unbeaten with 128 runs while Steve Grinling made 61. Matt Heywood fell one
short of a half century. Full credit to Lakenheath. Dom Palmer and Frank Gammon
completed a century partnership in just 14 overs and following the dismissal of
Gammon for 52, Palmer was joined by his grandad Dickie Bond (51) and they added
a further 127. Palmer remained unbeaten on 118 as the visitors closed in on an
8 wicket win.
