MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

Presidents Christmas message

19 Dec 2016

Another year draws to a close, and what an extraordinary year it has been. For me it started well when Jean was inducted into the MildenHALL OF FAME in recognition of her work and support of the club for nearly 50 years. We witnessed the first eleven achieving their best performance in the 140 year history of the cricket club by winning the Two Counties Championship. At the other end of the spectrum how pleasing it was that the club was able to call on around 40 different players (including several of the ever improving Ladies team) to play for the fourth team. I was able to report on many good performances from all the other weekend and midweek teams. A successful cricket week saw the first visit of an MCC side and lots of in-house cricket. We were enriched throughout the season by two wonderful visiting Australian players. It is also good to see that the youth academy continues to flourish as it goes through managerial changes.

With so many members pitching in to the many tasks needed to run a large club like ours, I had a long list of candidates to consider when choosing who would receive the President’s award for 2016. This speaks well for the future of the club in the coming year. To all of you who have helped to make me proud of being President of Mildenhall Cricket Club, may I thank you for your efforts.

The new committee has hit the ground running and they have plans underway to make the 2017 season a success. I myself am currently collating the clubs history with the aim of producing a timeline archive for all to use.

Soon we all will be looking forward to the cricket season, however, for the time being may I, on behalf of Jean and myself, wish all members, family and friends of Mildenhall Cricket Club a very Merry Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year.
