MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

Sunday is the best day of the week.

23 May 2017

The Sunday 2XI faced off against a BSSC side that started with 9 players...but finished with just 7! Mildenhall batted first and that powerhouse opening combination of Ash Clark and Kiefer Renouf were soon into their stride. Renouf hitting 37 before he was a victim of Sunday 'Judas' Taha Ahmed. Clark was another victim of Taha's but not until he had reached his 50. Steve Grinling promised much in his 23. It was the later order that rallied, Tom Heywood batting at 7 scored 55 and Renoux Van Overmeire hit 25 not out. Mildenhall finished on 221 off their 40 overs and at the half way point were firm favourites to win the match.

The BSSC innings contained some highlights form hard hitting Vic Ahmed and H. Rout but with four players absent including Taha they never really threatened the target set and ended up on 153 all out off 34.3 overs. Wickets were shared between Van Overmeire (1), Steve Ready (1), Tom Heywood (2), Max Brais (1) and Jack Horn (2).

Mildenhall ladies travelled to Easton on Sunday for the match that will hopefully decide the championship. Easton batted first. Mildenhall won the toss and sent Easton into bat. The bowling was tight and accurate without many wickets being taken. The bowling figures were

Megan 6-0-34-0
Fliss 7-0-16-1
Sheldene 7-0-24-1
Helen 7-1-23-0
Kayls 6-0-43-1
Angela 2-0-18-1
Kim direct hit run out

Mildenhall were able to chase down the target with few scares. Pippa Palmer and Sheldene Ford Keeble opening the batting and getting the away side off to a good start. Once Pippa was out for 17 the dangerous Helen Atkinson joined Ford Keeble and the match was in Mildenhall's control. It was a surprise when Helen was out for 25. Ford Keeble was eventually out for a match winning 68. Angela (14) and Fliss (18 not out) also reached double figure. Mildenhall reached their target for the loss of five wickets after 29 overs. A much deserved win and so few league games during the season it appears the Mildenhall ladies are in prime position to claim the title.
