MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

President's Christmas greeting

20 Dec 2017

Near the end of the  2017 season I had the great pleasure of turning out for the 4th X1 in an away fixture at Melton St Audry. My inclusion in the team meant that I had played for Mildenhall for 50 years. Little did I realise how much enjoyment I would have and how  long I would play when I joined the club back in 1968.  I hope the three or four teenagers in the team at Melton together with all our players, will enjoy their cricket as much as I have.

Back in the 1960s the Club was still playing mainly friendly fixtures and midweek cup games. It was impossible to visualise that 50 years later we would have a test cricketer come through our ranks and also employ another test player to play for us. Three  famous names now adorn our home changing rooms. We have come along way.

It is no coincidence that the Club is progressive. The Club is run by a Chairman and committee who are focused on continually taking it forward. Work continues throughout the closed season in order to hit the 2018 season running. I hope all the players will be mindful of the work done on their behalf so that they might play good cricket,

With the year coming to an end and the Christmas season almost upon us may I, on behalf of Jean and myself, wish everyone associated with Mildenhall Cricket Club  a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.

I hope we will see many of you at the club on Christmas eve.
