Mildenhall 2XI took on Haverhill at home on Saturday. Mildenhall 2XI batted first on an excellent Wamil Way batting track. Andrew Squire looked in sublime touch from the first ball. The Mildenhall HallofFamer striking the ball with class through the leg side with his legendary style and panache. Ryan Clark made 9 before he was caught and bowled by Botten. Skipper Steve Graham joined Squiz and the home crowd hoped for a big partnership. The home crowd got a medium partnership. Squiz went on to make 67 before he was bowled by Harding. Steve made 43 before he was dismissed. Adam Trett showed some form before he was dismissed for 19. Pete Worthington made 22 not out but the rest of the Mildenhall batting faded against the strong Haverhill side. Mildenhall eventually finished on 187 for 8 from their 45 overs. Wilkins too 3-52 and Harding 4-58 for Haverhill.
The target set by Mildenhall shouldn't have been too tough to chase and so it proved. Haverhill lost Humphreys early to Duncan Fraser for 3 but Phillips (51), former Mildenhall player Luke Youngs (54), Dellar (34 Not Out) soon began to make the runs necessary to ensure the win. The away side reaching their target from 41.2 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Wickets were shared by Fraser (1), Loveday (2) and Bowman (1).
Another bad day at the office for Mildenhall 3XI as they took on Maldon 2XI. Maldon batted first and Killer Kingdon struck the early blow dismissing Barnes for 0. Thomas (15) and Collins (32) got the Maldon innings going but it was Bardo that was to make the significant contribution. Bardo made 76 not out and was well supported by Saxton (26) and Foster (15). Maldon finished on 207 for 6 from their 45 overs. In all honesty Mildenhall didn't bowl well at all. Kingdon went off injured after a fine spell of 2-13 off 10.5 overs. Martin Taylor bowled economically during his 15 overs taking 1 wicket for 31 runs. Matt Heywood was expensive going for 68 runs from his 12.1 overs but he did take 2 wickets. James 'the lesser' Taylor was the other wicket taker for Mildenhall.
The target of 207 was always going to be a bit of a challenge for a Mildenhall 3XI who haven't batted consistently well for a number of seasons. Clark looked in better touch during his 17 but Thurston and James Taylor were quickly dismissed. Kev Pearson managed 19 before he was bowled by Boyden. Kieron Davis played some interesting and effective shots in his 28 and Rich Thurston made 15 but there were no major contributions from other players. Mildenhall limped to a very poor 129 all out from 34.4 overs. Martin Kingdon was unable to bat. A disappointing day for the 3XI who need to get back on track this Saturday when they play Wivenhoe 2XI at home.
