Mildenhall1XI entertained Copdock and Old I's at home in the EAPL. Mildenhall were unbeaten going into the match. The start was delayed due to the early morning downpour. Copdock and OI's batted first and started off slowly with Openers Sharpe (21) and Webb-Snowling (13) trying to take the shine of the new ball. Tom Rash was his normal economical self with the new ball finishing with 9-1-21-0. Kyle Morrison was the first to strike courtesy of a catch by Hugo Douglas. It was then Hugo that came to fore. Hugo bowled 5 overs taking 2-19. Adam Ball was the mainstay with the bat for the away side. Ball's innings of 73 including three 4's and a 6. Ball faced 119 balls before he was caught by Finnis off Hussain. Mildenhall Old Boy (not to be confused with the South Korean movie classic 'Old Boy' - if you haven't watched it do so now as it will change your life.) Jack Beaumont contributed a stylish 16 before he was dismissed by Hussain. Hugh Thomas dug in deep during his innings of 33. The rest of the Copdock and OI innings fell apart a little and they finished with 200 for 8 from their 55 overs. Murtaza was the star for Mildenhall with the ball. The spinner finished with 16-1-57-4.
Mildenhall would have felt quite comfortable chasing the target but lost Curran (0) and Joe Reed (7) early on the innings. Both were LBW to Stuurman. Stamatis was another victim of Stuurman when he was out for 6. Jack Beaumont removed skipper Shepperson for 6. Tom Rash was able to offer some resistance with the bat. Tom hit four 4's in his innings of 26. Sadly during the later stages of the run chase there were two three run outs which hurt the home side's chase. The run chase would have been a disappointing one if not for one player. Nick Maiolo batted superbly in another very fine home 100 for Mildenhall. Nick hit twelve fours and 1 six in his innings of 113 from 136 balls. Nick single handedly almost won the match for the home side. It was a close game and the match was played in a great spirit between both sides. Both teams played for the win and the match could have gone either way. Mildenhall ended up all out for 195 from 47.3 overs.
Mildenhall 2XI made the long journey to Kelvedon & Feering. The railway track based Essex side providing strong opposition. Mildenhall batted first and Ryan Clark and Jon Allen were soon into their work. Jon had reached 38 before he was LBW to Parsons. Mildenhall skipper Steve Graham was another Parsons victim for 12. Jack Loveday was able to contribute 22. Andrew Squire managed 10 before he was again a victim to the Parsonator. It was Ryan Clark that was the main run scorer for the away side. Ryan scored 76 before he was...yes you've guessed it out to that man Parsons. Tom Allen (17) and Reuben Handy (not out 10) were the only other batsman to reach double figures. Mildenhall finishing on 198 for 8 from their 45 overs. Parsons took 5-41 and Watts took 3-43.
Kelvedon didn't really get close to their target. Parsons was the top scorer for the home side with his 27. Kelvedon finished on 129 all out from 38 overs. Jack Loveday took 2-21, Jon Allen 2-38 but it was Jack Bowman that was the star bowler. Jack bowled 10.2 overs and took 5-32. Matt Heywood was the other wicket taker. An excellent away win for the 2XI.
Mildenhall 3XI were looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they took on Wivenhoe 2XI. Mildenhall asked Mildenhall to bat first and also asked for the match to be reduced to 40 overs per side. In hindsight that was probably a very good decision by the Wivenhoe skipper. Mark Thurston made 26 before he was out to a very smart catch by Farrow. And that was the only wicket that Wivenhoe got during their 40 overs in the field. Mildenhall batsman Neil Clark made life very hard for the bowlers during his innings of 90 not out. Clark was supported by veteran Mildenhall 3XI batsman James Taylor. Taylor playing his usual second fiddle to Clark's powerful striking. Taylor finishing on 78 not out. Mildenhall finished on 249 from the 40 overs. For the away side only Morgan provided a real test. Morgan bowled 13 overs taking 1-49.
It was always going to be a tough chase for the Wivenhoe batsman. Pulford was out early for 0. Larking and Morgan both scored 42 before they were dismissed by Gabe Jones. Skipper Farrow made 26 not out. Wivenhoe finished on 127 for 6 from their 40 overs. The returning Kraken Andrew Zajac taking 1-19, Gabe Jones 3-37, Connor Cobbold 1-4 and Dustin 'Gene' Wilder with 1-7.
Mildenhall Sunday 1XI took on Stowupland on Sunday. It was the openers that were dominating for the home side. Joe Reed continued his devastating Sunday butchery with 85. Jack Loveday made 74. Skipper Jack Horn made 30. Mildenhall finishing with 245 from their 39.5 overs. Gregory taking 5-31 for Stowupland.
Stowupland started fantastically well thanks to Scarlett (62) and Wray (82). But after the opening batsmen the innings fell away. Jack Loveday too 3-36, Joe Reed 2-13. There were also wickets for "Gene" Wilder and Luke Ellis. Stowupland finished on 227 for 8 wickets from their 40 overs.
The ladies team went up against the Methodists from Kempston on Sunday. The 20 over match failing to provide a stern test for the Mildenhall ladies XI. Kempston batted first and reached 64 from their 20 overs. Ward with 24. 3 wickets for skipper Kayleigh Francis and 1 from Angela Jiggings.
The Mildenhall ladies made light work of the total. After the early loss of Kim, Helen was particularly savage on the bowlers. Helen finishing on 42 not out. Double "P" Pippa Palmer was more controlled in her innings of 16 not out. Mildenhall reached their target from only 9 overs.
Overall a good weekend for the Wamil Way club.
As in victory!
