Mildenhall took on local rivals Burwell (and Exning) on Saturday and came away victorious in a one sided match. Mildenhall batted first and Tom Rash and Tristan Blackledge looked in good touch. Rash made a confident looking 64 from 77 balls before he was run out by Donald. Nick Maiolo was unable to reach double figures as he was LBW to Ghelani. James Stamatis made over a run a ball 77 not out, that include 3 sixes. It was Tristan that was the mainstay of the innings though, Tristan falling an agonizing 3 runs short of a deserved century. Tristan faced 145 balls and hit 10 fours. Mildenhall reached 279 runs from their 50 overs. Jay Ghelani was the only successful bowler with his 2-47 from 7 overs.
The Burwell (with a little dose of Exning) innings doesn't make happy reading for the away side. They finished 108 all out from their 33.5 overs. Only Bramley with 40 and Tetley with 27 made significant contributions. Tom Rash with 2-16, Murtaza with 1-10 and Nick Maiolo with 2-8 but it was a red letter day for Tristan Blackledge as he took 5-24 from 8.5 overs. A comfortable win for the Wamil Way side. Next week the 1XI are off to the coast to take on Frinton on Sea in what is always an entertaining match. Only one more home fixture for the 1XI so make the most of seeing your local heroes and legends on the 1st September.
Not such good news for the 2XI as they lost a thriller against Copdock and OI's 2XI. Mildenhall batted first and lost Clark early for 4. Steve Graham contributed 45 before he was caught and bowled by the excellently named Millions. Jordan Francis made a welcome return with an lovely 48 before he was caught by Millions off Jo East. It was Jonny Allen who was the hero with the bat, Jon made 76 not out. Mildenhall finishing on 201 for 6 wickets from their 45 overs. James East took 3-57 from his 12 overs and his brother John took 2-47 from 11 overs. Copdock chased down the total for the loss of 9 wickets with just 2 balls to spare. Miambo with 30, Thomas with 46, James East 48 and L. Millions (Lots?) with 21. Steve Graham took 2-38, Kyle Morrison 3-65, Jack Bowman 1-52 and Jon Allen with 3-17 off 11 overs. A superb all round effort from Jon, who was unable to bring the points back to Wamil Way. Next week the 2XI will be entertaining Copford, please come down and support the lads if you can.
A truly dismissal day at the coast for the 3XI. An under-strength team consisting of players under 20 and players over 40 lost to a team of young men. Thankfully Mildenhall won the toss and batted. Mildenhall got off to a slow but steady start on an outfield longer than a ZZ top beard. Neil Clark top scored with 31. Neil opened the batting with Matt Heywood who played some nice shots in his 20. Martin Taylor has been in good form this season with the bat and he made a bright and breezy 24 before he was bowled. Dustin Wilder made an equally breezy 10 before he was run out. Mildenhall finishing on 122 for 8 from 45 overs. Felixstowe bowled extremely well with Reeves the chief destroyer with a truly outstanding display of bowling. Reeves ripped the heart out of the Mildenhall batting with his 6-21. Felixstowe started their innings off and showed the bowling no mercy. Ben Hopkins (26), M. Lawrenson (53 not out) and A. Hopkins (30 not out) flayed the hapless Mildenhall bowling to all parts of Felixstowe and neighbouring ports. Felixstowe reached their target from only 124 much to the relief of the 3XI. The only wicket to fall was thanks to a lovely bit of spin bowling from Heywood and a sharp stumping from Connor. A miserable day personally and for the team. On the plus side I am halfway to achieving the much lamented Audi (for those who don't know that's 0000). Happy Birthday JT!
Enough of the misery lets cheer things up with news of a win. This time we were on the right side of a thriller! The 4XI won a close match against Melton St. Audry's. Melton batted first and reached 118 all out from 40 overs. Burkitt with 28, Stokes 29 and JB_Sadasvan with 15. I'm not sure what the underscore is about, I didn't want the fella's email address just his name and score would have been ample thanks! The Officer Steve Hunt made a very welcome return to Mildenhall colours, the former Chairman and Hall of Famer taking 2-47 from 12 overs. Trevor Westley continued his recent form with 3-19 fro 11. Doctor Mo Ubaid bowled tightly (9 overs for 20) but it was once again the oldest swinger in town Kev Boardman who was the star. Kev took 5-18 from 8.5 overs and showed that you are never too late to enjoy back to back Michelle's (cue Sid James carry on laugh). It should have been a relatively easy chase but that is not the Mildenhall way. Mildenhall lost big guns Renouf (16) and Saunders (17) early on. Trev Westley contributed a much needed 38. Steve Hunt scored 22. It was left to Ewan (Desmond) Haynes and Alex (John) Tucker to see Mildenhall home in a close and thrilling finish. Mildenhall winning by one precious wicket. For the away side R. Grubb took 3-31, M. Grubb 2-18, Sidhu (Najot Singh?) took 1-25 and the gorgeously named Barnsely Sadsavan 3-15. Well done to the 4XI.
The ladies had a great win on Sunday on the main pitch. Please switch over to Twitter and enjoy Lou's blow by blow account of a victory that look most unlikely at one stage.
As in victory!
P.S. Cricket really sucks!!
