A thrilling home win for the 1XI against title chasing Sudbury on Saturday. J(very minimal)c has provided another excellent macth report, which you can enjoy by accessing the fixtures and results page of the webiste. PS for J(tiny)c I am also away the last couple of weeks of the season so the club members will have to make of the scorecards what they desire...
Unfortunately the rest of the results this Saturday were not so good for the club. The 2XI travelled to Sudbury. Mildenhall batted first and were in trouble early when Kyle Morrison was bowled by Whitehart for 0. Ryan Clark (35) and Jordan Francis (48) produced a very solid stand for the 2XI befor Clark was bowled by (Missy) Hyett (really old school wrestling reference that absoultely nobody will get, but me). Jon Allen came to the crease and provided solid resistance with his 47 not out. Jordan was another batsman to be bolwed (this time by Soborg). Taha "Boom Boom, lickey/lickey" Ahmed came in for a brief explosion (17) before he was also bowled by Soborg. Soborg also managed to remove Tom Heywood but not before the Mildenhall batsman had scored 32. Jack Bowman finished with 14 not out. Mildenhall finishing with a reasonable 218 for 5 wickets from their 45 overs. Soborg was the pick of the bowlers with 3-58. Cruickhank and Morrison removed the Sudbury opening batsman very quickly before Pears and Melton stood firm for the home side. Pears was eventually bowled by Jonny Allen for 38 and Melton was stumped by Clark of the bowling off Jack Bowman for 55. Amos contributed a fine 42 before he became Bowman's second victim of the day. Witham made 31 before he was bowled by Cruickshank. Sudbury reached their target for the loss of 6 wickets from 43.2 overs. Kyle too 1-23 off 9 overs, Cruickshank (showing some excellent recent form) finished with 2-27 from 8.2 overs, Jack Bowman 2-53 from 13 overs and Jonny Allen 1-32.
The 10 brave men of the Mildenhall 3XI travelled to Stowmarket to take on the promotion chasing Suffolk side. The day started well with stand in skipper Mark Thurston winning the toss and batting. Sadly that was as good as the day got for Mark as he was bowled by Haynes for 0. Neil Clark didn't do much better as he was caught for 2. Kiefer Renouf 'Le Grand Sausage' came and went for 11. Martin Taylor and Lou Handy were both dismissed for 5. Mildenhall were struggling at sod all for 5 wickets. Some respectability was added to the total thanks to a fine camero from birthday boy Dustin 'Van' Wilder. The American hit the ball to areas that I didn't think existed both in terms of the shot attempted and the MCC coaching textbook. Dustin also hit some very attractive shots including a sumptious square drive. One of the most improved players in the club over this season Dustin ended up with 37 before he was bowled. James Taylor then decided to hold a one man wrecking crew display on the humour of father and son Matthew and Harry Parker. Not conntent with running out the father (Matt) the veteran Mildenhall batsman Taylor decided to complete the set and run out the son (who hadn't faced a ball). My apologies to the Parker's, awful running...by both of you ;o) Mildenhall finished being bowled out for 143 from 39 overs. Taylor finished with 61 Not Out. Stowmarket with a full compliment of 11 knocked off the runs for the loss of 7 wickets from 37.4 overs. Ives with 46 and Blake with 34. Martin Kingdom with 2-48 from his 15 overs, Lou Handy 0-25 from his 6 overs and an impressive 0-10 from 4.4 overs. There was one stand out bowler (and I use stand out in the loosest possible sense of the term). Kiefer bowled some absoulte drivel and received one of the dirtiest Michelle's in the history of the club. Not since Warren Jackson's 6-80 from 7 overs vs Mistley have I seen such utter crapola take wickets. One highlight was an amazing stumping by Mark that was induced via his keeping pads. Kiefer who has bowled well at times during this season was left 'humping' the pitch during the 5fer, he should have been looking above and praying for thanks for the good Lord rather than 'enjoying' himself in an American Pie style!!!! Do disgrace for the 3XI and 2 home games to come. It has been a much more enjoyable year for the side. Good luck to the promotion gaining Stowamarket.
Mildenhall 4XI had a home match against Felixstowe Corinthians 2XI on Saturday. Batting first the away side amassed 214 for 9 from their 45 overs. Warne with 58, Parker with 51, Bennett with 35 and Burrows with 32. The home side were thankful the bowling of the returning HallofFamer Steve Hunt. The Officer with 6 arrests from his 15 overs at a cost of 66 runs. The 4XI enjoying the benefits of 11 players could not achieve the run chase. The 4XI were bowled out for 165. Mick Saunders finished on 46 not out despite suffering from cramp and a brutal Angie Handy massage. Luke Ellis and Reuben Handy were out in successive balls. Trev Westley was the other major contributor for the 4I with 29. M. Smith taking 4-47 for Felixstowe, Burrows 3-60 and Warne 2-13.
And that is it for another season for me. But before I go I want to discuss what I see as a troubling trend at the club. During the last few weeks I have noticed a large volume of young clubmates who whilst sitting down seem to have the inability to move their hands from down and out of their cricket trousers/shorts. Gents you do not need to have your hands permanetly attached to your genitals. They will still be there if you move your hand. When reaching down there what are you expecting to find???? Do you think you will suddenly become Kiefer overnight? Leave yourself alone, please. Hands should remain outside of your trouses, jeans, shorts and or/pants until you get home and find yourself in suitable privacy and then by all means check yourself...and I mean check yourself. I know you pay your 'playing membership' subscriptions but that 'playing membership' means cricket on the pitch and not...maybe it's just jealously on my behalf I'll let you decide for yourself but in all seriousness just remember we are an inclusive club so if your hand starts to slide, just keep it outside.
As in victory!
