Another
year draws to a close and it's time to reflect on the cricket season and what
it produced. Generally the teams enjoyed success. The 1st X1 gained
3rd place in the EAPL and achieved the highest ever league position in the
club's history . The 2nd X1 also achieved the teams best ever league position,
competing in the Two Counties. The 3rd X1 equalled their best ever.
This is a tribute to all the club players turning out every week, many
who were asked to jump between teams at the eleventh hour. The Cricket
committee work hard to bring the best standard of cricket to the club and
it's good to see all the members getting behind that policy. Hopefully everyone
benefits when the philosophy is to have a centre of excellence.
Your committee is already getting to grips with plans for next
season and may I also thank the retiring committee members who have
worked tirelessly over the years. Also best wishes to your replacements.
I hope that 2019 sees the club go from strength to strength and that
everyone gets to enjoy a season of wonderful cricket.
My love of our club is well known and I was delighted when the Heritage Lottery
allocated us money this year. This will enable us to archive all our
historic documents and artefacts .
We also left Mildenhall after 46 years and found a lovely bungalow in
Lakenheath. I have many friends at the Lakenheath Cricket Club, but my home
will always be at Wamil Way.
So on behalf of Jean and myself may we wish all members and friends
of Mildenhall Cricket Club a very merry Christmas and a
peaceful new year.
Best wishes
Tony Cornell
