Presidents Christmas Greetings

With 2020 coming to an end, I am sure we are looking forward to the new year and hopefully a full season of cricket. It has been a tough time for young people with uncertainty about their jobs, their social life restricted and sport disrupted in a time when recreational activities are most needed. I for one appreciate the sacrifices they have made to protect the likes of me.

Sadly, it has also been a year when we have lost several ex-cricketers who in their time helped shape Mildenhall Cricket Club into the top club it is today. Their legacy will be remembered and recorded in the Club’s heritage room.

As anyone who attend the end of season awards in September would have seen that I recognised, through the President’s Award, the endeavours of the whole committee who worked their socks off in order that some cricket could be played in the second half of the season. In addition, they were also able to launch a Fifth team and a Ladies 2nd X1. It is a testimony to the committee that over 70 people represented Mildenhall Cricket Club on one weekend in August.

For Jean and me it was a joy to be able to watch cricket at Wamil although we missed being able to chat and socialise in the pavilion. We look forward to addressing this as hopefully the Covid pandemic recedes in the coming months and we can enjoy a full year of social events

The club appears to have weathered the short fall in income because of the virus, and hopefully it can continue to challenge for honours at several levels in the coming season.

So, despite of all the restrictions on our lives Jean and I would like to wish all members and the families that are Mildenhall Cricket Cub, a merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and peaceful new year.

Tony Cornell
