MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB News story

Christmas greetings from the President of Mildenhall Cricket Club

21 Dec 2012

With the current cold weather it feels like Christmas is here already,  however, with a few days to go its the time for reflection on the year. It was the weather that played such a big part in the Club's cricket season, with many early season games lost to rain. Despite the cricket committee's best efforts to put a strong side together to challenge for that elusive Two Counties title, the team was thwarted by having so many matches cancelled due to the wet conditions. Who can believe we started the season in Drought status?

Sadly we lost some dear friends and members this year and their like will hard to replace.

I'm heartened, however, with the strength in the numbers of people playing cricket under the MCC banner, six weekend sides, a midweek team and a revitalised Ladies X1, along with all the youth teams.  I was particularly pleased to be a part of an "ancient and modern" Sunday team that won the Hunts County Bat Division 4 league this year. It was also good to see so many members and friends holidaying together under the guise of a South Coast tour in August.

Your committee is working hard already in preparation for the 2013 season, and like a lot of families there is some belt tightening  to ensure budget constraints get the club value with any new signed coaching players.  Let us hope the weather is kinder next year.

On behalf of Jean and myself may I wish all players, members, family and friends of Mildenhall Cricket Club a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year
