Who Does What Behind The Scenes

18 Jan 2014

The 2014 MCC committee met for the first time this week since their election at the AGM in December, as you would expect with everything new there were plenty of ideas and enthusiasm.  I thought I would take the opportunity to let you know who does what behind the scenes.

The various sub-committees, who have the responsibility of discussing details within their remit at a granular level to then report back to the main committee, are now detailed on the website (on the MCC website select Officials and then MCC Committees).

The Cricket Sub-Committee has responsibility for all matters related to the preparation for and playing of cricket.  Cricket is what MCC is all about so this sub-committee is perhaps the most influential and high profile.

The Facilities Sub-Committee has responsibility for all matters related to the pavilion and ground maintenance.  We are proud of our facility at Wamil Way and it takes a lot of time and effort to maintain our high standards.

The Sponsorship Sub-Committee has responsibility for raising funds for the club.  For those of you who attend the AGM's you will know that running costs at MCC are considerable and we would not survive without sponsorship and donations.

The Membership Sub-Committee has responsibility for ensuring that membership details are up to date and deal with the sometimes thorny issue of payments, no-one likes to hassle people for money so please take the initiative and pay your membership promptly.

The Social Sub-Committee has responsibility for organising social functions either at MCC or for MCC members/friends at an external venue.  Functions may include quizzes or race nights and with the World Cup and a Cricket Week this season there should be good opportunity to get people using the club.

The Hall of Fame Sub-Committee has responsibility for initially framing the criteria for the Hall of Fame and then submitting nominations for inductions annually.  The first inductees will be announced at the upcoming dinner on 1 March so if this interests you please contact Kevin Boardman about tickets for the dinner.

In addition to the committees there are other club officers who help ensure that the club runs as smoothly as possible; Antoinette Jones is the Child Welfare Officer, a very important role for the youngsters/parents at the club to ensure we comply with our duty of care.  Those youngsters are the charges of Kevin Boardman who is the Youth Development Officer, I expect you all know Kevin's legacy and I am sure there will be many more quality youngsters coming through the ranks.  Stewy Turner is the Bar Manager, the bar profits are an important source of income and Stewy has overseen this for many years with his usual efficiency.  Tony Cornell is the Press Officer responsible for promoting the name of MCC and also via his maintenance of the club website helping to make sure members are kept informed of results, information and events.

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas about how the club functions please feel free to either seek me out or engage with the relevant sub-committee.

Cheers
Lou
