This December Jean and myself have been preparing to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary which falls in the week before Christmas. For almost all of those 50 years I have been playing cricket for Mildenhall. So many of our memories involve the club it's members and the many friends we have made over the years. I have now decided that after over one thousand representative games for Mildenhall it's time to retire from playing cricket. If someone had told me at the start I would still be playing way passed my seventieth birthday, I would not have believed it.
Cricket can be a demanding sport and can test the skills and stamina and can also test people's temperament under pressure. However it can also be a game for socialising and I have enjoyed all these aspects over years.
This last season it's been good to see so many people staying together after matches and enjoying each other's company. It's good to recollect why you play cricket and that you remember to enjoy your leisure activity and leave the competitiveness on the field. Three league winning teams was a good achievement and added to the ambience of the club. Also with the successes of the Youth Academy, the future looks secure, Long may it continue.
The Chairman and his committee have things in hand to hit next season running and plans and projects are in place to continue with the clubs desire to be a centre of excellence. I am comforted knowing the club is in good hands.
So on behalf of Jean and myself may I wish all the players, members and friends of Mildenhall Cricket Club a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope that we can all enjoy a wonderful 2015 cricket season.
