MCC LADIES
2019 TWO COUNTIES CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS

A look ahead to the 2021 Season

Mildenhall Ladies enter their fourteenth season in 2021 for senior cricket. This season sees monumental firsts for both the first XI who will compete in the inaugural season of the WEAPL, and the second XI who will compete in the TCLC West for their first competitive season. They ladies are also competing in the Vitality T20 National competition for the third season, playing against new and old teams across the region. A number of the ladies have also continued to compete in men’s senior cricket during the season.

Following her success as the most improved lady during 2019 season, Sophie Hughes continued her progression with bat and ball and earnt herself the player of the year for 2020. The ladies contain a number of county representatives at age group level and senior ladies in Jasmine Westley, Sophie Hughes, Jasmine Thomas, Niamh Harris and Megan Haynes. With new full-time players joining the ladies for 2021, such as Maddy Reynolds, the season looks to be a promising one.

We continue to have a strong representation in the youth section led by “The Doctor” Brian Rayner who is keen to get as many girls involved in playing cricket as possible. The generation of the ladies 2nd team T20 will aid giving these youngsters a taste of senior cricket at an introductory level for senior ladies cricket.

The 2020 season, although affected by the pandemic, brought a number of achievements for many. Our top run contributions came across the team from the likes of Helen Atkinson (as always!), Emily Daltrey, Jasmine Westley & Sophie Hughes with a number of big sixes and personal best scores gracing the ground at Wamil Way. Key contributions of wicket-taking came from Helen Atkinson, Kayleigh Thurston, Fliss Cleverley, Megan Arnold, Jasmine Westley & Sophie Hughes amongst others. With the newly formed second XI, a few firsts were had by ladies within the group, including the first sets of mother and daughter partnerships taking to the cricket pitch for the first time.

Mildenhall Ladies are looking to increase their player base and squad numbers in their ever-growing family of ladies cricketers. This is welcome to all abilities and ages, even if you have never picked up a cricket bat or ball before! We are keen to continue increasing our squad numbers, and with the coaching and support of all at MCC, both on and off of the pitch, there are real opportunities for all who want to play.

Mildenhall Ladies have been netting for a number of weeks already, with some players also attending men’s nets and their respective county nets also in preparation for the season. We would like to see some more ladies and girls increasing our squad numbers, but also our growing social presence at club events as a whole. Who run the world – girls!

The ladies net sessions take place at Wamil Way on Tuesday evening from 6pm-8pm during Summer and at the Dome 8-9.30pm during Winter.
