Wivenhoe v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 04 Jul 2009 at 1.00pm
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 4 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall 1st X1 travelled across counties to play Wivenhoe in a Two Counties Division One match with several changes to the line up. Wivenhoe batted first on a pitch that soon proved difficult to bat on. Lucky Phangabantu finally found last seasons form and ripped out the top four Wivenhoe batsmen. Steve Lankester ably supported him as the home side slumped to 52 for 6. Morgan (34) and Phillips (20) offered a little resistance as 100 was posted on the scoreboard. However with Lankester giving the ball a good rip he was soon back in amongst the wickets, picking up his fourth wicket when he caught and bowled Durrell for 4. Tymal Mills removed the danger man when Watson hung on to a catch offered by Morgan. Wivenhoe were bowled out for 137 in the 46th over.
Mildenhall did not find the chase easy. Despite contrasting innings from Ziaf Kulasi (20) and the more dower Richard Cross (36), the away team and found themselves in a precarious position with half the side gone for 88. It was last week’s man of the match Lankester who once again steadied the innings with an undefeated 40 as Mildenhall finally passed the required total with six wickets down and 20 points in the bag.
