MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Sudbury (Sponsored by George Tilley) on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 1.00pm
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 8 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall Cricket Club held their annual “Beer Festival” at the Wamil Way ground at the weekend and on Saturday while spectators tasted the delights of beers and ciders Mildenhall 1st X1 went out to field against Sudbury in a Two Counties Division One Match
With Sudbury on 57 without loss no one could have predicted what then took place. Tymal Mills and “Lucky Phangabantu had opened the bowling and had extracted little from the conditions. James Holmes replaced Mills at the River end and although he to was initially unsuccessful with figures of 0 for 19 he was beginning to get some in swing with help from a stiff prevailing wind. Holmes then remarkably transformed his figures as he ran through the Sudbury batting taking 9 for 14 in front of Mildenhalls largest crowd of the season. He was assisted by two fine catches from Jimmy Watson and Ben Shepperson and a stunning catch in the slips by Ziaf Kulasi. Sudbury collapsed to 97 all out with Shepperson claiming the one other wicket when he bowled Younger for 10. Holmes final figures of 9 for 33 off 12.1 overs was a best ever for a Mildenhall 1st X1 player.
Mildenhall made fairly light work in knocking off the required runs. Richard Cross and Alex Reynolds added 47 before Cross fell for 18. Shepperson looked in good form as he added a breezy 22 before being dismissed lbw. Watson joined Reynolds to complete the run chase with Reynolds returning to form making an undefeated 48. The crowd was left with a longer than expected chance to judge those fine Ales and Ciders.
