MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 3rd XI - Sat v Witham 2nd X1 on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 1.00pm
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Witham won by 21 runs
Match report
Mildenhall 3rd X1 were at home on the adjacent pitch to Witham 2nd X1 in a Two Counties division five encounter. The home side held the early advantage when they claimed half the Witham side for 59. The away side then recovered due in main to a to a hard hitting century that included 8 sixes by S.Denny. Witham finally made 221 all out. Lou Handy took 4 for 61 and Captain Mark Thurston 3 for 52.
In reply Mildenhall took up the challenge by sending in hard-hitting Chris Reeve to open the batting with Andy Francis. They added 61 for the first wicket with Reeve living up to expectations with some fine boundary hitting. James Taylor joined Reeve and the pair kept the run rate going until Reeve was bowled by a slower ball finishing on a seasonal best of 52.Mildenhall then lost two more cheap wickets before Steve Hunt joined Taylor and the Mildenhall total rose to 171 and there was a sense of victory. However Hunt was then bowled for 28 and the home side then began to lose the advantage as three of Taylors partners went for ducks. Despite scoring 72 *, Taylor was unable to grab the initiative to keep the run rate going and the home side fell 22 runs short of victory being bowled out for 200. For Witham R.Howes produced the best bowling figures with 4 for 35.
