Match report MCC Ladies beat Battisford Ladies by 24 runs

The Mildenhall skipper won the last toss of the season and put the team in to bat confident of a positive result. Openers Fliss Cleverly and Lilly Reynolds got off to a solid start with a rapid 34 off 8 overs but the loss of Cleverly led to a mini collapse with three wickets falling for only 18 runs. The captain, Mary Munley steadied the innings with a 68 run partnership with Reynolds leaving Mo Jones to play out the last three overs to finish on 127 for 5. Reynolds played yet another confident innings of 77 not out.



The Battisford opening pair were quickly despatched in the first three overs for 7 runs by Cleverly and Kirsten Arnold who served up a most impressive wicket maiden in her first over. A more resilient pair then occupied the crease but their defensive approach meant the run rate crawled at just over 2 an over so that at the halfway stage Battisford were only 40 for 3. The middle and lower order tried to blast their way to victory but were all out for 103. Cleverly was the pick of the bowlers (5 overs 2 maidens 8 runs 2 wickets) but Mo Jones took 3 for 19 including a caught & bowled, Hannah Gordon 2 for 14, Arnold 1 for 8 off 4 overs with 2 maidens. Reynolds and Debbie Bowman also contributed with maiden overs. The state of the wicket meant keeper Jeanette Hobbs was challenged by the unpredictable bounce but with only 5 byes to her tally and two run-outs was very effective. Player of the Match was yet again 15 year old Lilly Reynolds with Fliss Cleverly and Mo Jones deserving special mention for their bowling.



MCC Ladies finished their first season in the Two Counties league a very creditable third.
