MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall lost by 8 wickets

Match report Mildenhall travelled to Two Counties Division one league leaders Coggeshall on Saturday buoyed up with three wins in their last three matches. On a bright sunny day Mildenhall batted first. On a pitch with lots of bounce Coggeshall soon had Mildenhall in trouble. Alex Reynolds got off the mark with a four but was then beaten by bounce and offered a catch to Rees off G.Blackwell. Last week’s century maker Ziaf Kulasi made just one before he tried to pull Carter and was also out this time caught behind by wicketkeeper Rees. Luke Turner looked pretty uncomfortable against the openers use of bounce and movement and he too departed for just one run, offering Rees his second caught behind this time off G.Blackwell. Mildenhall had slumped to 12 for 3. Steve Lankester joined Jimmy Watson and Lankester opted for attack rather than defence. He threw the bat with some lusty blows including a top edge over his own head for four. He and Watson took the score to 45 before Lankester (17) drove extravagantly forward and was bowled by G.Blackwell. Jimmy Watson easily looked the most comfortable of the Mildenhall batsmen as he and Adam Trett began some resistance. They combined some stout defending with some over the top hitting eventually seeing off the Coggeshall “Quickies”. The pair added raised the 100 then after a partnership of 64 Watson (46) was deceived by the bounce of W.Blackwell and drove on the up to cover where he was caught by O.Blackwell. Tretts endeavours finally produced a 50 for a Mildenhall batsman, but then he was deceived into offering an easy catch to Overstone at extra cover off the bowling of Jagger. James Holmes (12) soon followed, having been let off the hook when a catch was missed in the slips he drove high and straight to give Neale a catch at deep mid off and gave Jagger his second wicket. Adam White made just 2 before he prodded forward and gave a simple slip catch to O.Blackwell. Lennox Lwana also a century maker from last weekend came in only to repeat what White had just done and was out first ball for 0, a third catch to O.Blackwell and also a third wicket for Jagger. Mildenhall were still one short of 150 as Andy Youngs joined his skipper Karl Homes they shared a last wicket partnership of 28 before Holmes (18) was given out lbw to Jagger leaving Youngs not out 18 and Mildenhall all out 178 in the 47th over.
Mildenhalls opening attack had been depleted when Tymal Mills pulled out of the match with a back strain. However spirits were lifted when Lwana roared in to get Neale edging uppishly and then taking a wicket in his first over when Jagger (0) edged a legside catch into the gloves of Holmes. Trouble soon came to Mildenhall however when James Holmes having had a big shout for a caught behind by Byron Overstone turned down withdrew from the attack with a shoulder problem. From here on Coggershall always looked the likely winners as J.Neale and Overstone added 80. Adam Trett then got Neale (23) caught behind by Holmes. This was to be Mildenhalls last success as Overstone put on a master class making 110* and his partner O.Blackwell scored 42* in an unbroken partnership of 96.
