MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Ipswich & ES on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 1.00 p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhal won by 8 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall 1st X1 played hosts to Ipswich and East Cricket Club on Saturday in a two Counties Division One match. Mildenhall took to the field in glorious sunshine, conditions ideal not only for cricket but also for the Cricket Clubs annual Beer Festival.
Ipswich began quietly but steadily through openers Glassford and Budd. The pair put on 50 by the 17th over with Mildenhall bowlers Lwana Lennox and Martin Taylor containing but not able to break the partnership. Mildenhall Captain opted for a change of pace and brought Ben Shepperson into the attack and this move soon brought dividends when Shepperson trapped Glassford (34) lbw with total on 58. Rajapakse joined Budd and they continued at the same scoring rate leading to Mildenhall bringing on their other slow bowler Steve Lankester. He had an immediate impact bowling Budd (31) in his first over. This left Ipswich and East on 82 for 2. Rajapakse (26) tried a bit more aggression hitting Shepperson for two fours, however it proved his undoing having hit Shepperson for four to bring up the 100 for Ipswich he was deceived by the next ball and offered a caught behind which Karl Holmes accepted gratefully. The Ipswich and East innings then fell apart as Shepperson and Lankester took wicket after wicket. Backed up by excellent fielding and a stand out catch by Ziaf Kulasi in the deep Lankester grabbed 5 wickets for just 16 runs and Shepperson took the other 5 for 47. Ipswich folded to 130 all out.
Mildenhall opened with Chris Baugh and Ziaf Kulasi and the pair added a brisk 45 before Baugh fell once again lbw. Andy Squire returning to first team duty after an eleventh hour call up looked comfortable from the start. Kulasi however wanted to play an aggressive innings and stroked the ball hard; his boundaries include a towering 6 back over the bowler’s head. He completed 50 and then tried a wasteful reverse sweep and was out lbw to Barker. His wicket was the last success for Ipswich as Jimmy Watson (19*) and Squires (45*) knocked off the remaining runs needed in just over 23 overs. The game was all over by 5.30p.m leaving the large crowd having to go back to the beer tent!
