Mildenhall 2nd X1 travelled to Witham to play a Two Counties Division Three match. The visitor batted first and with Skipper Andy Squire (75) leading from the front they reached a credible 224 for 9. Andy Youngs (38) and Steve Grinling (30) gave Squire good support. Witham also proved generous as they gave Mildenhall 37 extras.
Witham took up the challenge with opener Green scoring a century. The home side looked poised for victory on 196 for 4. Andy Youngs however was turning in his best bowling figures for a couple of seasons and with Young Steve Ready suddenly grabbed three wickets including the century maker Mildenhall were back in the hunt. Witham lost their ninth wicket on 218. The home side got home in an exciting climax that saw them hit a six off the last ball of the game. This was all the more disappointing for Youngs as he finished with 5 for 52 off 14 overs.
