MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat v Bury St Edmunds 2nd X1 on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1.00 p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 3 wickets
Match report
On Saturday bright sunshine provided the perfect conditions for playing cricket. So visitors Bury St Edmunds2nd X1 took full advantage of wining the toss against Mildenhall 2nd X1 and batted first. Mildenhall however had an early success when Steve Grinling caught Harvey (8) low down at second slip off the bowling of Jamie Allen. Both Allen and Adam White showed aggression as an opening attack but were unable to prise out either Adams or Rynsard Perry and the pair pushed the score passed 50.
Captain Andy Squire turned to his second string bowlers using the pace of Andy Youngs at one end and Steve Ready offering spin at the other. Youngs efforts finally paid off when soon after having a big appeal for a slip catch turned down he clattered the stumps of Adams for 34.Bury continued to resist and Rynsard Perry and Nahid raised the 100 for Bury in the 25th over. Youngs got his second wicket when he again knocked over the stumps this time to dismiss Rynsard Perry (48). By now Bury were unable to accelerate their run rate and when Nahid (28) tried Steve Ready had him caught at deep square leg, a catch well taken by Luke Turner. Ready returned the favour when he held a skier at long on enabling Adam White to remove Price (27). By the fortieth over having added a further 50 or so runs Bury did finally go on the charge in the last five overs with Danny Reynolds (19*) striking the ball well. Youngs was brought back and had Stevenson (3) neatly stumped by Eddie Finnis. Youngs picked up his fourth when he again hit the stumps be it off an inside edge by Viljoen (10). Bury closed their innings on 187 for 7. Youngs finished with 4 for 48.
Mildenhalls reply began aggressively with Grinling despatching Reynolds to the boundary with two textbook cover drives and then hitting an enormous six back over the bowlers head. Reynolds had the last laugh however when he had Grinling (25) caught behind. Mildenhall had lost their first wicket with the total on 38. Andy Squire joined Chris Baird and they added 39 before a second caught behind removed Squire (12). Richard Cross came in at number four for Mildenhall looking to kick-start his league batting form. Bury switched to an all spin attack that slowed the scoring rate. Baird was next out. The Mildenhall youngster had mixed aggression with sensible defending found himself deceived by the slower pace of Vivet and was bowled for 44, Mildenhall were just two short of 100. Luke Turner joined Cross and they added 36 before Vivet struck again and Turner was bowled for 20. Vivet picked up his fourth wicket when Richard Thurston (1) swept and was caught behind, giving Harvey his third catch. Adam White and Cross began to accelerate the run rate needed so Bury turned again to Reynolds to try and stem things. He had White caught and bowled for 20. However by now Cross was batting confidently enough to push and run single with Youngs. Sadly he was run out with 3 runs needed and one short of his fifty. Nerves were calmed when Finnis struck a four from his first ball to secure victory with four balls remaining,
