MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost MIldenhall lost by 6 wickets

Match report Mildenhall 2nd X1 took on Lakenheath at Wamil Way on Saturday in a Two Counties Division Three match. Both teams were carrying the scars of the day before. Lakenheath as a result of a days golfing followed by an evening dinner and Mildenhall after a Student party.

Mildenhall batted first and Mick Saunders got them off to a flyer taking 10 off Adam Horrexs first over. Ryan Clark survived a huge appeal for a caught behind before he and Saunders added 69 for the first wicket. Saunders (33) was the first wicket to fall when he lofted a catch to “Woody” Reeve off Horrex. Captain Andy Squire arrived at the crease batting at three and he and Clarke stroked the ball around until Squire posted the Mildenhall 100 with a huge six. Soon after, Clark making his debut for the 2nd X1 completed his 50. Clark was unable to add to his score when he was dismissed lbw to Veteran Paul Pallant. Pallant soon struck again as Richard Thurston (2) swept at him and top edged a catch to Wicketkeeper Andy Leech. Jason Moore joined his skipper and the pair took control adding 55 with the Lakenheath fielding looking ragged. Moore was in a particular aggressive mood but it eventually proved his downfall when Leech stumped him off the bowling off Greg Palmer for 27. This wicket saw the Mildenhall advantage snatched away. Andy Youngs managed only one run before edging a catch to the keeper off Palmer and then Keith Starr struck for the away side as he bowled Squire for 48 and then trapped both Eddie Finnis and Aaron Blumfield lbw to complete a hat trick. Mildenhalls expectations had quickly been reduced. Tom Allen (9) and Alistair Kingdon (24) showed their youthful exuberance as they scampered up to a final total of 198. Starr finished with 4 for 31.

Lakenheaths reply was always positive. They added 34 for the first wicket before Palmer (23) was well caught by Thurston off Blumfield. Moore bowled Pallant for 12. The chase then centred around Michael Reeve as he made 63 not out with the Lakenheath skipper Leech making 31 and further support from Tim Milner (22) and Richard Horrex (17). Lakenheath completed their target with just over an over to spare and for the loss of 6 wickets.
