MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Frinton (Sponsored by A & K Air Conditioning) on Sat 23 Apr 2011 at 1.00p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall lost by 44 runs
Match report
Mildenhall Cricket Club started their new season with the disappointing news that their new Captain Steve Lankester had to make a late withdrawal from the team because of illness. This meant that Chris Baugh the Vice Captain had to take on the captain’s mantle for the first time. He won the toss and asked Frinton to bat first. His decision was soon vindicated when Lennox Lwana removed both openers. He clattered the stumps to dismiss Everson for a duck and then trapped Moulton lbw for 9. Lwana’s new opening bowling partner “AJ” Ahmad found the River End at Mildenhall difficult to adjust to, but eventually got his rhythm and in his sixth over he bowled Foakes for 11 leaving Frinton on 32 for 3 after 12 overs. Tymal Mills, Mildenhalls England U19 player replaced Lwana and his hostile pace soon had Armstrong (12) edging a ball to Chris Baugh in the slips who managed to catch it after a little juggle. It was Mills who then took his second wicket when he induced Fernando (7) to hook down to deep backward square when Janzhabib took the catch. Frinton had half their side out for 67. Hambrook joined Jones and the pair began a fight back as Mildenhall turned to the gentler pace of Martin Taylor and Ben Shepperson. The bowling pair offered no real danger as Frinton edged forward and passed 100. Mildenhall finally made the breakthrough when "AJ Ahmad came back on to bowl and took a sharp caught and bowled chance to dismiss Hambrook for 27. Hambrook and Jones however had added a valuable 75. Jones continued to bat steadfastly. Ahmad took his third wicket when Shillinford (5) edged a catch to Any Squire at first slip. By now Frinton were passed 150. Jones eventually was out for 78 when Mills trapped him caught behind by wicketkeeper Karl Holmes. Frintons lower order held on to close the innings on 181 for 8. Mildenhalls seam attack had performed well with Lwana taking two wickets and Mills and AJ Ahmad three each.
Any hope of a Mildenhall win vanished quickly when Baugh was bowled for 3 with just 5 runs on the board and Patel off Stubbs caught Holmes in the slips for 1. Shepperson and Ziaf Kulasi advanced the score to 29, but then Shepperson (15) was out in exactly the same fashion as Holmes and Kulasi (8)missed timed a drive straight to Moulton at mid on off Shillingford. Andy Squire (1) couldn’t get going either and he offered a third catch to Patel this time off Moulton. Mildenhall had slumped to 43 for 5. Richard Cross and Adam Trett set about reconstructing the innings and slowly advanced the score to 86 off 33 overs. Cross (28) then tried to lift a ball over mid on but only for Moulton to make a second catch and give Stubbs his third wicket. Ahmad joined Trett and the pair took the score passed 100 before Tretts resistance was ended when he was caught behind by Hanbrook off Moulton for 33. AJ Ahmad (20) hit some lusty blow before he was adjudged lbw to Stubbs. Martin Taylor and Lennox Lwana both hit sixes in a dying cause. Lwana was out for 13 when he skied a catch to Jones off Moulton and Taylors and Mildenhalls resistance was ended when Fernando bowled Taylor for 8. Mildenhall were all out for 137 and lost by 44 runs. A. Stubbs was the pick of the Frinton bowling with 4 for 46
