Mildenhall 19 Points Maldon 5 Points

Mildenhall had an additional Bank Holiday Monday fixture and entertained Maldon CC IX in a Two Counties division one game. With overcast conditions and a weather forecast of rain early evening the two sides agreed to make a prompt start. Maldon won the toss and decided to bat. It looked like their decision had backfired when Lennox Lwana bowled C.Harris for a duck. However when M.Gozzett came in at number three, he and J.Ainscough put a partnership together that belied the league positions of the clubs. They added 108 before James Holmes returning to the 1st X1 after nearly a year struck for Mildenhall. He trapped Ainsgrove lbw after the batsman had made a good 63. Mildenhalls captain kept ringing the changes of his six strike bowlers and “AJ” Warraich returned for a second spell and picked up three middle order wickets including the prize wicket of Gozzett (92) who finally made a false shot and edged a catch to wicketkeeper Karl Holmes. His wicket signalled an end to any hopes of Maldon getting passed 200. They finished their innings on 187 with 9 wickets down. For Mildenhall Lwana and Holmes both got a couple of wickets and Warraich finished with 3 for 27.

Mildenhall always had an eye on the weather and scored briskly. There was a sad mix up between Joe Reed and Alex Reynolds that resulted in Reynolds being run out when the score was 43. However a determined Reed went on to redeem himself with an aggressive 70 before being caught by S.Coker off C.Harris. Reeds aggression was matched and bettered by Lankester as the Captain lashed the ball to all parts. The rain came and made it difficult for the fielding side. However Lankester (67*) was on a roll and with Chris Baugh (19) they added 86 to reach a 191 in just fewer than 24 overs. Mildenhall gained a seven wicket win and 19 points for their endeavours.
