MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 8 wickets
Match report
Mildenhall 1st X1 took on Coggeshall 1st X1 at the Wamil Walk ground and were looking to bounce back after last weeks defeat to rivals Copdock. Coggeshall batted first and the Mildenhall attack of Tymal Mills and Lennox Lwana went straight in to top gear. In the fifth over Coggeshall lost their first wicket when Rob Jagger (2) feathered a catch off Lwana in to the gloves of Karl Holmes. Next over and it was carnage as Mills firstly dismissed Carl Bragg (2) as he too edged a catch through to Karl Holmes. Then in the same over he struck Ollie Blackwell under the lid of his helmet forcing the number three to retire. The barrage continued when Rees (3) tried to fend off a hostile delivery from Lwana and offered a simple catch to Joe Reed. Coggeshall were mesmerised and dot balls came in bucketfuls. Mills gave way to AJ Warraich after bowling 7 overs and taking 1 for 10. Lwana got his third wicket when Overstone (5) did get some bat on ball only to see James Holmes knock the ball up in the slips and an alert Chris Baugh hung on to the rebound. Coggeshall were 19 for 4 after 16 overs. Coggeshall then had a let off when Squire was unable to hold on to a diving catch wide in the gully. James Holmes replaced Lwana at the river end. Coggeshall were in a pickle and fittingly it was Cross and Blackwell trying to restart their innings. They had moderate success against Warraich and progressed the score to 46 Meanwhile Holmes was producing some fine inswinging bowling and in his second over he bowled Cross (16). Warraich after 5 overs for 20 gave way to Joe Reed. The spinner struck with his second ball when extra bounce deceived Stockwell (0) and he edged another catch through to keeper Karl Holmes. The rout continued when in the next over James Holmes trapped Will Blackwell lbw for 12 and Coggeshall were 47 for 7. Holmes made it 3 wickets in 3 overs when Lees (1) tickled a catch into Chris Baugh at slip. Coggeshall lost their 9th wicket when Lankester took a low slip catch off Reed and Green was gone for 0. Ollie Blackwell bravely returned to the crease and struck thee boundaries including a massive 6 before he was last man out. He became James Holmes 4th wicket when he attempted a drive and was bowled for 16. Coggeshall were all out for 70 after 32 overs. Lwana finished wit 10 overs 6 maidens and took 3 for 5 while James Holmes finished with 4 for 13.
The teams turned straight round and Coggeshall had an initial success when George Blackwell bowled Alex Reynolds for 2. Joe Reed however was still in the same belligerent mood that had seen him score a double hundred last weekend. He hit a succession of boundaries that soon put the result in no doubt. Ben Shepperson briefly joined in but then fell to a catch at deep backward square for 12. Chris Baugh (12*) joined Reed (42*) and the pair remained unbeaten as they passed the Coggeshall score to gain maximum points and keep Mildenhall top of the league.
