Mildenhall 2nd X1 were looking to maintain their challenge for the top spot in the Two Counties League division three. Mildenhall batted first in their match with Stowmarket. They got off to a flyer with Steve Grinling (79) once more in belligerent mood and his opening partner Ryan Clark (42) giving good support. However the Stowmarket bowlers stemmed the run rate during the middle of the innings and might have turned the advantage towards them had a series of catching opportunities been taken? Chris Baugh batting at three made a half century and some late impetus was injected when Ben Shepperson (23) hit two huge sixes in the last over. Mildenhall closed on 241 for 6.

Mildenhall were streets ahead in the fielding stakes taking seven catches. Wicket keeper Eddie Finnis set the standard as he went backwards to hang on to a skier off the Stowmarket opening batsman M.Gill (2). While the catch of the day went to Freddy Preston, he judged the descent of a ball that swirled high in the wind and caught it at arms length to dismiss the other opener Madanayaka for 31. Lennox Lwana bowled with venom and picked up three wickets including both openers. Top performance went to Ben Shepperson who spun his way to a six wicket haul taking the last wicket in the last over to get Mildenhall maximum points and depriving Stowmarket a batting point. The visitors were all out for 198. Stow’s top scorer was their Captain K.Holland (43).
