MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 3rd XI - Sat v Frinton 2nd X1 on Sat 20 Aug 2011 at 1.00p.m.
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 1 run!!
Match report
Mildenhall 3rd X1 had a home fixture against second placed Frinton 2nd X1. Mildenhall batted first and batted round opener Mick Saunders who made 69 before he was the sixth wicket to fall on 187. Liam Ward made 30 and Steve Hunt a quick fire 20. Mildenhall closed on 198 for 7 with Alex Lack (15), Martin Taylor (19) and Jonty Rawcliffe (18) all making contributions.
After initial spells from Alistair Kingdon and Liam Ward Mildenhall turned to the experience of Martin Taylor (3 for 51) and skipper Lou Handy (1 for 52) to contain the Frinton run chase. They reeled off 29 overs that left Frinton needing around 9 an over off the last 4 overs. J.Carter had led batting for Frinton making 53 before falling to a caught and bowled by Martin Taylor. Handy turned back to his two teenage opening bowlers. Some outstanding catching and fielding by the senior players Lou Handy, Chris Reeve and Mick Saunders backed them up. It all came down to a nail biting finish with Frinton requiring 3 to win off the last ball. Wicketkeeper Alex Lack kept his composure on retrieving the ball from behind the stumps and ran through to break the stumps and run out Butcher (20) to give Mildenhall a thrilling one run victory.
