Long Melford v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sun on Sun 11 Sep 2011 at 1.30p.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 6 wickets.
Match report
On Sunday Mildenhalls 1st X1 match was called off after Edwardstone conceded, however the 2nd X1 finished their season with a sparkling win away against Long Melford. The home side batted first and in the very first over Joe Turner bowled the redoubtable John Stuck (0) when Stuck showed a rare misjudgement and shouldered arms. In the second over Ben Tippett engineered a run out of A.Kemp (0) following a dramatic stop in the field. There after the home side struggled through the first 20 overs accumulating 59 runs for the off 5 wickets. Martin Coverdale picked up two wickets as his end of season form continued. Long Melford were able to recover as captain D.Bigg lead the way with an unbeaten 55 ably supported by M.Wood who struck six boundaries in his 29 runs. Melford eventually closed on 155 for 9. Coverdale finished with 3 for 28.
With dark clouds threatening an early finish Mildenhall went on the charge. The top order gave good support as Steve Grinling led the onslaught. He smashed 16 boundaries in his unbeaten 69 as Mildenhall passed the 155 required in the 25th over for the loss of 4 wickets. Mildenhalls vice captain James Taylor made 26. Disappointingly for the Mildenhall 2nd X1 news soon reached then that Bardwell had also won thus depriving them promotion.
