Match report Mildenhall retained the Le Hogue Midweek League trophy with a comfortable win against Burwell. The match was played on the Godolphin home ground.
Burwell batted first and in Andrew Youngs first over he had dangerman Frannie Bester caught by Joe Reed for a duck.Jones and Lawton took the score to 53 then it was Reeds turn to be the provider and Richard Cross hung on to a catch by Lawton (11). Goosen joined Jones and they became constrained by the slow bowling of Lankester, Reed and Shepperson.Jones was well stumped by Giffin off Shepperson when Burwell had reached 80 and Shepperson picked up two more wickets before Burwell closed on 126 for 5 in their 15 overs.
In reply Grinling hit a six off the first ball but then was trapped LBW off the third. Chris Baugh and Joe Reed then added 50 at a run a ball before Baugh was run out attempting a second run.Shepperson joined Reed and the pair continued scoring at 10 an over. Shepperson (21) finally fell ( a memorable catch taken by Goosen diving and hanging on to a skier at ground level) with 9 runs required and Reed who had accelerated magnificently was able to remain unbeaten on 62 as the ball ran over the boundary for four wides. Reed was awarded MAN OF THE MATCH.
