Haverhill v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat on Sat 21 Apr 2012 at 1.00 p.m
Match was Abandoned
Match report
The April weather ruined the opening week of Mildenhall’s season with persistent rain at Wamil Way causing both the 2nd & 3rd teams games to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.
However, on Saturday the 1st team travelled to Haverhill with a side missing a few key players. On a damp wicket Mildenhall bowled first and started brightly with a wicket a piece for opening bowlers James Holmes & AJ Warraich. Haverhill’s middle order then formed some useful partnerships however Warraich provided regular breakthroughs and finished with exceptional figures of 3-17 from his 14 over spell.
Mildenhall’s new recruit Azeem Ghumman and the more experienced Martin Taylor then joined forces towards the end of the innings as Haverhill continued to struggle to score runs at any pace. Ghumman finished with 2-29 and Taylor 2-20 as Haverhill closed their innings on 140-8, S Youngs top scoring with 44.
With the absence of their regular opening batsmen Mildenhall sent Ben Shepperson & Karl Holmes out to open the innings, however Shepperson fell early, caught in the gully for 1. Ghumman then came to the crease at number 3, but confusion between him & Holmes resulted in Holmes being run out. As the dark clouds loomed in the distance Bester & Ghumman set about recovering the innings as Mildenhall progressed to 31-2 before the heavens open and the captains reluctantly agreed to cancel the game. Mildenhall picked up 10 points with Haverhill taking 9.
