MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 192 runs

Match report Exning journeyed to near neighbours Mildenhall on Saturday to find a Mildenhall side packed with pedigree. Both of Mildenhalls Essex players Tymal Mills and Tom Westley were include in the home team.

Exning asked Mildenhall to bat first. Openers Ben Shepperson and Westley added 58 before Ian Starling got a ball to move away and Shepperson was caught behind for 21.Azeem Ghumman joined Westley at the wicket, at which point Mildenhall had the talents of a former England Under 19 captain and a former Pakistan Under 19 captain at the crease. Westley completed a fifty, before the partnership was broken when Starling bowled Westley for 63. This brought in Andy Squire who this season is showing some of his best vintage Suffolk form. Ghumman and Squire put on another majestic display in a partnership of 128. Exning missed an opportunity when Ghumman skied a ball that left four Exning fielders wondering which one of the other would catch it. Sadly for Exning none of them made the vital move and the ball fell to the ground. They did eventually get Squire (54) when he was caught, deep in the gully by O Lawson off Hayward. By then Mildenhall had reached 226. Steve Lankester joined Ghumman and it was “cue carnival time “ as Lankester blitzed 30 in 11 balls, which then left James Holmes (39*) to carry on in the same vein. Ghumman eventually reached his hundred before giving a catch to Matt Catley off S Lawson. Finally with Tymal Mills and Karl Holmes hitting big sixes, Mildenhall closed on 327 for 7 having added 111 in the final 10 overs.

Exnings reply was soon stunted after their two openers Wood and Atkinson were both bowled by Mills. Any hope of a challenge by Exning rested on Tim and Matt Catley, however Exnings poor start to the season was exacerbated when Tim Catley was run out for 43 and Daniel Baigent, who has moved between clubs this season proceeded to take out the three middle order batsmen including Matt Catley (17). S Lawson (21) and Darren Hayward (18) provided a few moments of defiance. However with Mills returning to pick up a third wicket and with Wesley claiming 3 tail enders Exning were bowled out for 135.
