MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 1st XI - Sat v Frinton(sponsor RPV Valves) on Sat 30 Jun 2012 at 1.00 p.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 5 wickets
Match report
Mildenhalls hopes of winning the Two Counties League this year were kept alive when top of the table Woolpit lost last week. So it was important for Mildenhall to be on top of their game when they entertained fourth placed Frinton at Wamil Way on Saturday.
Steve Lankester put the home side through some vigorous warm ups and it paid off with immediate success when AJ Warraich bowled Trevor Moulton with the first ball of the match. James Holmes restored to opening the bowling soon struck at the other end when deputy wicketkeeper Eddie Finnis hung on to a catch from Michael. Armstrong (5). Mildenhalls mystery spinner Azeem Ghumman replaced Warraich in the 13th over and immediately trapped M Jones (20) lbw leaving the visitors on 36 for 3. Holmes then bowled Ian Morton (4) with the score on 48. Ramon Reifer, Frintons overseas player was not fazed with the situation and together with Stockdale they started to re compose the innings, though tight bowling from Daniel Baigent meant ever run was earned. Mildenhall eventually took advantage of a mix up between the batsmen and Russell Stockdale was run out for 32. Frinton passed 100 and Reifer was beginning to dictate the Frinton innings. With support from firstly Tom Sinclair (19) and then James Baker (16), Frinton moved towards adding a further 100 runs to their score. Both Sinclair and Baker were both out to catches trying to force the pace and then Warraich returned to pick up another vital point when he bowled two lower order batsmen in consecutive balls. Reifer (103*) finally achieved a well made hundred and together with Tony Stubbs they denied the home side maximum bowling points as Frinton closed on 210 for 9.For Mildenhall Warraich finished with 3 for 25.
Mildenhalls reply was equal to the visitors when Jo Reed was caught for 0 and Ben Shepperson (6) was out to a brilliant gully catch by Stockdale. With Azeem Ghumman and Fran Bester at the crease Mildenhall set about rebuilding the challenge. Bester was the more belligerent while Ghumman showed off his range of deft strokes. Together they added 89 before Ghumman (41) was adjudged lbw to Stubbs. Any thoughts that Mildenhalls middle order might crumble were soon dispelled when Alex Reynolds played anchor to a partnership between himself and Bester. By the fortieth over the home side had scored 176 but in the next over Reynolds (20) was trapped lbw. Bester by now was in full flow and together with Andy Squire they saw up the 200 and soon after Bester (106*) reached the second hundred of the day. Squire (11) fell lbw just before victory was secured by 5 wickets
