Brockley v MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB 2nd XI - Sat on Sat 07 Jul 2012 at 1.00 p.m
MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Won Mildenhall won by 20 runs

Match report On the fortieth anniversary day of cricket being played at Wamil Way any hopes of celebrations were dashed when both 1st and 4th X1 matches were abandoned following torrential rain. Mildenhall 1st X1 championship hopes suffered a set back when top of the table Woolpit were able to complete a match and take maximum points.

Mildenhall 2nd X1 faired better travelling to Brockley to play a Two Counties Division 2 game. Mildenhall batted first on a wicket that more than favoured the bowling side. The away side lost opener Richard Cross before he could open his account and Dean Sykes then took his second wicket when he clean bowled Luke Turner for 7. Andy Squire came in at 3 and together with Chris Baird they dug in for 20 overs adding 60 runs. Sykes and Reed just bowled line and length and on a helpful track and pegged Mildenhall to 2.5 runs per over. Sykes eventually tempted Squire (38) who nicked a catch to wicket keeper Byford. Alex Lack joined Baird and slowly they edged towards 100, however the patient innings of Baird (34 in 110 balls) came to an end when Hawley bowled him. Mildenhall then lost a flurry of wickets trying desperately to post runs on the board eventually reaching 139 for 9 with Lack having batted resolutely not out 30. For Brockley D Sykes took 3 for 32 off 15 overs.

Brockleys turn to bat proved as difficult as Mildenhalls. Saheed Akolade sent both openers back to the pavilion early and then Tom Allen dismissed Webb (13) with the score on 32. Kearney and Jones showed real fight adding 49 before Akolade retuned for a second spell and broke the partnership bowling Jones for 13. . When Alex Lack caught Kearney (45) off Andy Youngs the game tilted to the visitors. Jack Beaumont gave Mildenhall hope picking up a couple of wickets an Akolade rowed in bowling two lower order batsmen both for nought and to earn himself another “Fivefer”. A tantalising last wicket partnership of 17 was finally broken when Lack caught Sykes (7) off Beaumont and the home side were bowled out for 119 leaving them 20 runs short.Saheed Akolade finished with 5 for 30 and Jack Beaumont took 3 for 30
