MILDENHALL CRICKET CLUB Lost Mildenhall lost by 5 wickets

Match report
Mildenhall won the toss on Saturday in their home match against Wivenhoe. With conditions favouring the bowlers Captain Steve Lankester showed belief in his batsmen and elected to bat. His faith in his players was soon dispelled. Tom Durrell and Joe Fowler opened the bowling and both got sideways movement and Alex Lack (1) was soon a victim trapped lbw by Durrell. Durrell struck again when Tom Westley was adjudged lbw for 14. Last weeks man of the match Erik Laubscher (8) helped Alex Reynolds to raise the Mildenhall 50, but soon after offered a simple catch to extra cover and gave Durrell his third wicket. Andy Squire and Reynolds looked to be starting a recovery, however with the score on 74 Squire became the 3rd batsman out lbw for 16. Alex Reynolds patient innings came to an end to yet another lbw decision and he was out for 31. Reynolds wicket signalled panic as both Steve Lankester (14) and James Holmes (0) tried to hit their way out of trouble and both were caught in the deep. The expected sunshine failed to materialise and the Mildenhall innings matched the mood as two suicidal run out calls saw both Karl Holmes (7) and Alistair Younger (10) back in the pavilion. With “Nelson” still posted on the scoreboard Jamie Allen was bowled first ball and Mildenhall were all out for 111. For Wivenhoe Tom Durrell took 3 for 22 and Ryan Savill picked up 3 for just 13 runs.

James Holmes and AJ Warraich showed some aggression when they opened the attack for Mildenhall and Holmes was rewarded when he had Matt Durrell caught behind for 14.Lankester switched his attack and the slower bowling of Laubscher proved successful as he took a couple of wickets before Wivenhoe had reached 50. Jamie Allen replaced Laubscher as Mildenhall kept switching their attack. Allen looked the pick of the bowlers as he had Savill (20) caught by Reynolds. By now the long awaited sunshine appeared and batting conditions improved. The fifth wicket went down when Warraich ran out Joe Fowler with the score on 90 and at this point the Wivenhoe innings mirrored Mildenhalls. There was to be no exciting finish however as Willie Morgan (12*) and Ashley Ling (19*) calmly added the remaining runs required and the visitors won by 5 wickets.
