Match report Saturday saw Mildenhall 1st X1 playing near neighbours Lakenheath. Ground staff toiled all morning battling with the weather and play finally got underway at 2.45p.m in a match reduced to 27 overs per side. Mildenhall batted first and lost the early wicket of Ben Shepperson (1) when he edged a ball from Saheed Akolade and gave a catch to Andy Leech. Lakenheath and Saheed then had a second when Frannie Bester (9) was out lbw with the score on 36. The home teams coach Kobus Scholtz then began a master class in aggressive batting. He belted the ball to all part as he and Karl Holmes (13) added 46 and then another 67 with partner Luke Turner. Scholtz scored ten 4s and five 6s before falling 5 runs short of a century when he was caught in the deep by Paul Pallant off Matthew Barbour. Luke Turner (46) carried on the barrage as Mildenhall scored at 8 an over and with Ryan Clark not out on 17, Mildenhall finished on 219 for 8.
Any chance of challenge by Lakenheath were ruined when rain caused the game to be abandoned at teatime.
